Available services
Line Editing
Line editing addresses necessary changes to grammar, punctuation, and capitalization, as well as some basic rewording to improve syntax.
Content Editing
Content editing addresses everything that line editing addresses, as well as light fact checking and more substantial changes to syntax in order to strike a particular tone, keep characters’ voices consistent, and the like.
Developmental Editing
Developmental editing involves a deep dive into plot, character, and dialogue (for fiction); or into organization, development and integrity of concept, and clarity of meaning (for nonfiction).
Regardless of the service performed, I will tailor the editing to meet your goals and the specific needs of your work.
Zack DePew—Editor
Since 2007, I have been helping writers achieve the best for their manuscripts, papers, and more. During this nearly twenty-year stretch, I initially worked as an in-house manuscript editor, and later as a coordinator of editorial services (during which time I performed quality-control duties on the work of a pool of more than two hundred freelance editors). In 2012, I ventured into the freelance realm myself, where I currently remain.
During my freelance career, I have edited hundreds of books—fiction and nonfiction alike—spanning a wide spectrum of genres, as well as academic papers, dissertations, press releases, and more.
While I largely work with individual authors, I have worked with organizations to develop written documents as well. Most recently, I assisted the Presbyterian Church USA’s Vital Congregations Initiative in publishing a series of booklets outlining the seven marks of vital congregations.
